Frentzen looks for revenge

Heinz-Harald Frentzen came close to wreaking his revenge on McLaren for snatching pole at last month's German Grand Prix

The German, who won the French Grand Prix and is fourth in the drivers' championship, split the McLarens to take second place on the grid beside Mika Hakkinen.

He currently lies six pounds behind third-placed man David Coulthard in the drivers' championship.

A good performance at Monza could see the him snatch the place back.

Frentzen is on an incredible run of form having finished in the top four six times since winning Magny Cours in late June.

'When I set the fastest time this morning I saw Mika's 23.4s lap on old tyres that had done 20 laps and I knew he would be competitive in qualifying,' said Frentzen.

'But I could see from the times we had chance to be on the first row so I concentrated on the McLarens.

'I knew we even had the opportunity to get pole here and I wanted to get my revenge.

'It was a great performance from us and the team.

'I was only going to do two timed laps but on the first run I lost it on braking and then did the same on the second lap.

'Then I was not able to do my second lap because of yellow flags and I had to abort, so at the end I tried again for the last run two timed laps and it was virtually impossible with
yellow flags everywhere.'
