Frentzen back in title reckoning

The German, who was written off and dumped by Williams a year ago, leapt into the reckoning with his second win in seven races.

He has not been out of the top four since winning the French Grand Prix in late June.

He inherited the lead when Mika Hakkinen spun off just after half distance and nursed his car home to an historic victory exactly one year after his signing for Jordan was announced.

With three races remaining he is third in the title race just 10 points behind joint leaders Mika Hakkinen and Eddie Irvine.

'I couldn't believe it when I saw Mika in the sand because he was seven seconds ahead of me,' said Frentzen.

'The start was dramatic. I had too much wheel spin and lost a place or two but got them back again and then set my sights on Mika but couldn't keep with him.

'After the pit stop I nursed the car and just made sure I brought my baby home.'

Asked about his world title hopes, he said, 'Isn't it incredible? I can't believe I have a chance of winning the word title, I haven't put my mind through those calculations yet.

'But theoretically I have the chance to become world champion. Three races to go and we are just 10 points behind Mika.

'We struggled at the start of the season but in Budapest we improved the car.

'We can't beat the McLarens in a straight fight but we will be trying our best.

'This result is great for team, its the best year they've ever had - and the biggest success of my career too.

'I am so happy I don't know how to express myself,' he said choking with emotion.
