Franchitti Rules Out Testing Role

Dario Franchitti wants to concentrate on his ChampCar challenge this season and has ruled himself out of a Formula One test drive.

Dario Franchitti wants to concentrate on his ChampCar challenge this season and has ruled himself out of a Formula One test drive.

The Scot, who tested once for Jaguar last year, has been rumoured to be in line for a second test with the team, but has stated that he has put his Formula One hopes on the back burner and if he does join Formula One it will only be to race.

"I am a race driver and I love racing," said Franchitti. "I wouldn't want to be a test driver. That is not what I do."

But Franchitti has too much on his mind to think about Formula One right now and wants to get on with the American job, in the ChampCar series.

"I have a lot of work to do this season," said Franchitti, who drives for Team Kool Green Honda. "Formula One is not even on our radar at the moment."

Franchitti came second in the CART championship two years ago - behind new Formula One hot-shot Juan Pablo Montoya but he will be looking to go one better this year and is already on target for one of the highlights of his year - the oval race at Britain's new Rockingham International Motor Speedway.

"I am delighted the ChampCars are coming over to England," said Franchitti. "It is nice to race at home. Any race win is special, but it would be a wonderful feeling to win on home ground."
