Ford denies Jaguar could race in 2000
Ford has denied that its Jaguar brand could enter F1 as early as next year - but not that it could be used in Grand Prix racing.

Ford dismissed reports that it may bring forward a plan to use Jaguar instead of Ford in F1.
European sports boss Martin Whitaker said the company's desire was to 'get success back to Ford,' and that its decision to extend its contract with Stewart Grand Prix until the end of 2001 and its purchase of engine builder Cosworth were indicative of that desire. 'A name changes is as far from everyone's mind as it could be,' he said.
There are, however, conflicting messages regarding the possibility of Jaguar being used in F1. It has been rumoured that works team Stewart may race with Jaguar branding by the year 2001.
The team's deputy chairman Paul Stewart said, 'It has been mildly discussed. There are no firm plans. It is primarily driven by (Ford boss) Jacques Nasser. He thinks it's a good idea, but there is nothing concrete.'
Nasser is said to be intrigued by the tribal support given to Ferrari, and interested in how Ford could win some of its own. Jaguar, with its long heritage, could be a way to do that.
