Fisichella on Top at Jerez - Day Two

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella topped the time sheets at the Jerez circuit in Spain, on the second day of testing for the Benetton team.

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella topped the time sheets at the Jerez circuit in Spain, on the second day of testing for the Benetton team.

Mark Webber, the team's test driver, began working on Tuesday, but he could only complete two laps due to an injured rib, so the Australian was today replaced by racing drivers Fisichella and teammate Jenson Button.

Working on different electronic systems which will be introduced at this year's Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona, Fisichella completed 27 laps with a best time of 1:22.713, more than two tenths of a second quicker than Luciano Burti in the Jaguar, who joined the session today.

Burti's teammate Eddie Irvine was third fastest after completing the most number of laps with a total of 66, while Button, who continues to struggle with the B201, set the slowest time of the day after 28 laps, almost three seconds behind Fisichella.

Testing at Jerez will resume on Thursday.

Today's times:

Pos Driver Team-Engine Tyres Time 1. Fisichella Benetton-Renault (M) 1:22.713 2. Burti Jaguar-Cosworth (M) 1:22.973 3. Irvine Jaguar-Cosworth (M) 1:23.358 4. Button Benetton-Renault (M) 1:25.378 All Timing Unofficial
