Fisichella fit for Monza challenge

Giancarlo Fisichella has declared himself fit to race in Sunday's Italian Grand Prix after his 150mph accident in last week's Monza test

But he confessed to concerns that the team had not managed to track down what exactly caused a brake pad to fail, pitching him into a high speed accident which completely wrecked his Benetton chassis.

The 'Pocket Rocket' was sent home to recuperate from his second accident in three days. He had also crashed out of the warm-up in the morning of the Belgian Grand Prix after misjudging a bend.

"I am fine," he said. "Two big accidents in three days is not fantastic, mentally, for a driver but I have had a good rest and done some training. Now I feel fine and confident, and will be okay for the race. The stiffness has gone and I have no other problems except for a small one with one ankle."

He was full of fighting talk to end his recent dismal run of luck at his home Grand Prix.

"We have lost a lot of points recently and what with accidents in Austria and Germany, losing results in the last two and then having two big accidents," he added. "It's been a very unlucky period and I hope to bounce back and score some points at my home race.

"Normally the car is very reliable, but I am just worried for the race on Sunday because I lost the brake pad at the Variante Ascari and had a very big accident. We are still investigating what the problem could have been. But there is a good feeling between the mechanics and me, and I really believe in them."
