Firman to Join Heidfeld in Jordan Test

Briton Ralph Firman will join Germany's Nick Heidfeld in testing for Jordan in Spain this week, the Formula One team said on Wednesday.

Briton Ralph Firman will join Germany's Nick Heidfeld in testing for Jordan in Spain this week, the Formula One team said on Wednesday.

Jordan have yet to confirm their line-up for next season but have options on both men while also talking to a number of other drivers.

The list of candidates include Firman's compatriots Justin Wilson, who has been replaced at Ford-owned Jaguar by Austrian novice Christian Klien, and former Toyota driver and Renault tester Allan McNish.

Firman drove for Jordan this year alongside Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, who has joined Sauber.

"Nick has an impressive record and has worked with McLaren, Prost and Sauber, so he has a wealth of experience and I'm sure he will bring a great deal to the team if his deal goes ahead," Firman said on his personal website.

"I am looking forward to working with him at the test at Jerez this week and, providing everything works out with our respective deals, at Grands Prix in 2004.

"The battle for race drives in Formula One has never been tougher, but I am determined to do everything I can to help the team and earn my place in the line-up next season."

Jordan said Firman would test alongside Heidfeld, who had his first drive of the EJ13 on Wednesday in the team's first test since the end of the season in October, on Friday.

Heidfeld completed 22 laps before lunch while Czech driver Jarek Janis, making his debut in a Formula One car, did 50.
