Final test at Mugello

The Formula 1 test at Mugello ended today (Friday) with McLaren test driver Oliver Panis again top of the timesheets

The test was due to finish on Thursday, but had been delayed by one day as marshals, team representatives and F1 drivers attended the funeral of Paulo Ghislimberti, the fire marshal killed at the Italian Grand Prix.

Back at Mugello Panis picked up where he left off on Wednesday to record at time of 1m24.104s. He was followed by Italian Grand Prix winner Michael Schumacher, who was over a second behind in the Ferrari.

"I am happy with the way testing went," said Schumacher. "We will arrive in the USA well prepared, having tried various scenarios which we could encounter next week."

Sauber continued to use Finnish Formula Renault driver Kimi Raikkonen at the Italian track. The 20-year-old was third quickest, a further two seconds slower than Schumacher's time.

Olivier Panis McLaren 1m24.104s 93 laps
Michael Schumacher 1m25.323s 89 laps
Kimi Raikkonen 1m27.460s 38 laps
