Fans back current venue for British GP

Silverstone secured 45.83% of 3428 autosport.com visitor's votes. The circuit suffered criticism after this year's GP when car parks had to be closed because of flooding, and thousands of cars were left stranded outside the circuit while the Grand Prix took place.

Its chief rival Brands Hatch, which has the contract to run the British Grand Prix from 2002, secured a still-substantial 30.43%, but was comprehensively beaten by Silverstone, which was the first site for Post-war British Grands Prix, and has held the event exclusively since 1987.

Donington Park, which hosted two pre-war Grands Prix in 1937 and 1938, and the World Championship European Grand Prix in 1993, won 14.53% of site visitor's votes. Donington was mooted as a possible venue for the British GP should Brands Hatch fail to secure planning permission necessary to hold the race.

Last, but still in possession of nearly a tenth of all votes, was the brand new Rockingham combined oval/road course with 9.21%. The track is new and building work has not finished yet, but with the F1 circus to encounter the banking at Indianapolis on the part-oval, part-road course, many Autosport.com visitors clearly find the prospect of a similar spectacle in Britain a tantalising one.
