F1 dates set for 2004 season
The decision-making group of the sport's governing body, the FIA's World Motor Sport Council, has reserved 17 dates for the 2004 Formula 1 World Championship - but has not revealed which circuits will hold races on them
Next year's schedule will start on the same weekend as this year (March 7) which is the logical date for the traditional season-opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The season will end on October 24, effectively two weeks later than this year's Japanese GP date, which takes place on October 12.
It also includes a three-week gap from July 25 (most likely the British GP date) until August 15 (which will probably be Germany). The inaugural Bahrain Grand Prix is the biggest question mark on the calendar, as event organisers were aiming for a March or April date for its new US$150m track.
The return, or not, of the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps is the other major conundrum which will have to be resolved before the full calendar is announced.
