Exclusive: Heidfeld Injured Again at Home

Nick Heidfeld could miss the rest of the Formula One season after suffering a suspected cracked shoulder blade in a bicycle accident on Sunday, Autosport-Atlas can reveal

Heidfeld remained at his home in Stasa, Switzerland, where he has been recovering from the concussion he suffered in a testing crash at Monza earlier this month. The German was keeping himself in full fitness prior to an expected return to the cockpit at this week's Silverstone test.

However, earlier today his manager called the Williams team to inform them that Heidfeld was hit by a motorcycle while out riding his bicycle and appears to have badly injured his shoulder.

A Williams team spokesperson confirmed the details and told Autosport-Atlas the team was awaiting further details before deciding whether they need to replace Heidfeld again.

However, should the German's injury be confirmed as a cracked shoulder blade, then it could keep him out of action for the final three races of the year.

Juan Pablo Montoya missed two races earlier this year after suffering a similar injury in a tennis accident, and admitted that he came back too early when he returned for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Williams have already confirmed that Antonio Pizzonia and Nico Rosberg will test for the team at Silverstone this week, with Heidfeld having originally been expected to rejoin the team there.

Heidfeld's absence would mean it is almost certain that Pizzonia will remain with the Williams team for his home Grand Prix in Brazil in two week's time.
