Enrique Bernoldi Q&A

Enrique Bernoldi was one of three Brazilian drivers at the 'Ring proudly wearing their national colours for Friday's World Cup quarter final, but as the only one driving for an English-based team, he had more to lose than most! It's been a mixed year for Bernoldi, who showed well against Arrows team-mate Jos Verstappen last year but has found Heinz-Harald Frentzen a tougher proposition this year. He outqualified the German in Canada, but as at most other races this season a problem prevented him from seeing the chequered flag. Adam Cooper spoke to Enrique

"When I came here it was a little bit tricky, because Brazil was losing. Everybody was laughing at me, but one minute later Brazil scored the first goal. I told them there's more to come! Afterwards they were really annoyed. When Brazil was winning I was making jokes and annoying them. I would hate to lose, because it would be 40 people against me! They put me in the corner and pretended to hit me..."

"It's longer! And slower. I'm not sure. Maybe the first corner can be a little bit better for overtaking, because the braking is a little bit longer. But maybe on the first lap it can be an even bigger crash than it used to be in the past. Turns two and three are really a little bit too slow and annoying. It's not even like the complex in Indianapolis - it's too slow."

"I don't know. We'll have to see. But it's not the kind of corners that F1 needs at the moment. This type of corner can just make F1 look worse than what it is, because we're going there with very low speeds. It's not what F1 is about."

"So far in practice it's not a big issue, but maybe in the race something could happen. We have to see."

"It was very disappointing, especially because for the race pace it was OK, and I could overtake quite a lot of cars. To finish the race the way I did was not the best. After coming from a pit stop the wheel went loose, so it damaged the car a little bit, so it was another retirement. What made me more disappointed was I could have done a good race. I had a crash in Brazil in the warm-up, and a suspension failure in the race, so the first thought that came to my mind was the car is broken. I stopped once again, tried to repair it, but the car didn't feel right, so I decided it was better to stop. It felt really weird, and Montreal is not the sort of place where you want a failure in the car, especially as the walls are so close."

"I think if maybe I had just one third of the luck of my team mate, I would maybe have a point! It really has been an unlucky season, and I just finished one out of eight races, which is not good. I have to say it's very hard. But I'm motivated because I feel that the team is going forward and I feel that we have good potential, so I just have to keep pushing myself, and maybe that will make me stronger."
