Eni happy returns – energy company back in F1 with Alpine

Eni has made a return to Formula 1 and is back on board at Enstone after signing a strategic partnership deal with both Alpine and Renault.

The energy tech company was last in F1 with Benetton in 2000 but will now work with Alpine as the team’s official energy and fuel partner.

The agreement will also see Eni and Alpine collaborate on “assessing and analysing innovations in fuel technologies and the development of bio-gasoline for racing”.

Eni branding will feature on driver race suits, the Alpine car and in the pitlane while its Enilive brand will be prominent at select grands prix across the calendar.

Former Benetton boss Flavio Briatore, now an executive advisor to Alpine, is pleased to have rekindled the working relationship with Eni.

“Eni formed a great part of our history at this team and has also, in the past, been an important partner in Formula 1.

“We share common goals and objectives, especially in regard to energy efficiency, sustainability, and future bio-gasoline products.

“To have them back on board at BWT Alpine Formula 1 Team is great and we look forward to doing many exciting things together in future both on and off the track.”

The deal extends beyond teaming with Alpine, as Eni is also forming a partnership with the Renault Group and the aim is to “identify and develop future opportunities for collaboration in the decarbonisation of the transport sector".

The two companies will work together on projects that include electric mobility infrastructure, smart mobility services and energy supply solutions.

“The introduction of bio-gasoline testing through the BWT Alpine Formula 1 Team is equally important as it reflects F1’s continuous pursuit of absolute technological excellence in engine development and performance.”
