Ecclestone will 'have a chat' with Alonso

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone says he will 'have a chat' with world champion Fernando Alonso and explain to the Spaniard what he meant by his remarks that Alonso should give back to the sport

Ecclestone said last week that Alonso "doesn't do too much" - a remark that infuriated the Renault driver.

Alonso responded yesterday, stating: "I have a team that pay me to do my job, I go testing, I go to the promotional events, I have my sponsors, I go to my obligations, I race, I do my maximum and this is my job in Formula One.

"I don't know what more I have to do. There is nothing more in the contract that I have to do."

But Ecclestone remains adamant that Alonso, as a world champion, should give back more to the sport's fans.

"I said he is the world champion, and there have been world champions before, and really they owe something to the public," the Briton said. "They are world champions, and they should start giving something a little bit back to the public.

"We will have a chat; it is our fault, as well as his, for not really telling him what we want the drivers to do."
