Ecclestone Calls for F1 Shake-Up

Formula One commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone believes the sport needs to "shake things up" before the current Concorde Agreement that governs it comes to an end in 2007.

Formula One commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone believes the sport needs to "shake things up" before the current Concorde Agreement that governs it comes to an end in 2007.

The sport's governing body, the FIA, instigated a major alteration to Formula One's make-up two years ago and their president Max Mosley announced proposals for more radical changes earlier this week.

He will meet with Formula One team bosses in Monaco on May 4 to discuss the suggestions that are proposed for 2008 but Ecclestone called for them to all unite and bring change forward.

"It's about time we went back to basics," said Ecclestone. "Well, it is back to the future actually. We need a big improvement, we need to stand back and look at what we are doing wrong. Maybe we can bring the changes forward if we can get unanimous agreement.

"We need a bit of a shake-up because we got lazy and we need to give good value to television and to the public."

The proposals include ideas such as a change of engine size, a ban on driver aids, more changes to qualifying and a rule that will allow teams to hire or buy cars from each other to reduce costs.
