Drivers fear multiple accident

Drivers have warned officials they must act quickly if there is an accident in the rain during Sunday's German Grand Prix.

There are fears a shunt could turn into a multiple pile-up because the blinding spray reduces visibility to a few yards even though the cars are still doing 200mph.

Drivers expressed their concern at a meeting with FIA safety delegate Charlie Whiting in Hockenheim on Friday.

Front-row starter Michael Schumacher warned: "This is a dangerous place in the wet. There is so much spray there could be a massive accident if there is a problem on the straights.

We have warned the safety car must be brought out sooner and for longer if anything happens. The problem is that the straights are long here, the cars reach very high speeds and in the spray you cannot see anything. At these speeds you cannot estimate how far ahead of you the next car is.

"We have told Charlie if there a problem in the difficult conditions something must be done fast."
