Drivers call for HANS update

Formula 1 drivers have tabled a plan to ask for more modifications to be made to the HANS (Head And Neck Support) Device if it is to be ready for the start of the season, according to this week's AUTOSPORT magazine

But motor racing's governing body, the FIA, has said that it will not back down in demanding that every driver races wearing the system this year, despite the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA) calling for talks about making changes to the system to make it more comfortable.

A spokesman for the FIA said: "There is no need to change our mind on using the device."

Modifications tried at last week's Barcelona test have improved the comfort of the device, with Michael Schumacher declaring himself happy with the system. "We seem to have found a solution," he said. "We still need to fine tune it, but it is already a lot better than it has been before."
