Di Grassi eyes Renault test deal

Macau Grand Prix winner Lucas di Grassi has set his sights on landing a Renault Formula One deal next season following his success at the weekend

The Brazilian edged out World Series by Renault Champion Robert Kubica to take victory in the blue-ribband event and is now keeping his fingers crossed that he will remain a part of Renault's young driver programme.

"I still don't know if I am still in the RDD (Renault Driver Development) for next year, so I am waiting for them," he said. "If I do stay in the programme then I won't do F3 any more.

"I think I have proved already that I can win. I was on the podium in the Marlboro Masters, I was on the podium here in Macau last year and I won this year. Now, for them, I need to prove that I can drive F1."

Di Grassi has already tested for Renault, having conducted a shakedown test at Jerez in September, and although it seems that GP2 front-runner Heikki Kovalainen will become the team's official test driver next year, there could be a secondary opportunity.

"No one has talked to me about any future tests yet, but at the end of the year I think they (RDD) will focus more on sorting out the programme," he said. "Maybe I can do what Heikki did this year - some shakedowns and small tests."

Alongside any testing he will do for Renault, di Grassi has said that he would like to graduate to the World Series by Renault or GP2.
