Dennis: victory won't change Hamilton
McLaren boss Ron Dennis believes that Lewis Hamilton's maiden victory will not change his driver's approach to the job
A first Formula One win is said to improve a drivers' confidence and make him better able to focus on what is necessary for further success.
But Dennis thinks that Hamilton's on-track efforts have been so good this year that there will be no instant improvement.
In fact, Dennis still believes the biggest challenge his team face is in coping with the huge interest that has been sparked by his meteoric performances this year.
When asked by autosport.com whether the win will change Hamilton, Dennis said: "I don't think so. Our understandable concern is really the out-of-car attention and how we're going to manage an increased demand.
"Maybe this win will tick all the boxes and give us a little bit of a breathing space as we move through the year, but that's probably wishful thinking. We definitely won't change his programme though.
"He's got one event at the Mercedes-Benz headquarters in New York and one at Exxon Mobil. They're the only things he'll be doing before next Thursday. The most important thing is to keep him focused."
Dennis said he was not surprised that Hamilton's first victory had come so soon in his career, and he praised the rookie's handling of the post-race press conference following the controversy that was sparked by what he had said in Monte Carlo.
"Few things surprise me in life," said Dennis. "I'm not surprised because you just know Lewis can cope.
"I understand he coped very well with all the questions at the press conference - including some silly ones - and that's to his credit. He wants to be the best in every respect and he's clearly focused on that. He's a good listener."
