Dennis slams Ferrari tactics

McLaren boss Ron Dennis ripped into his Ferrari rivals after Mika Hakkinen

finished third behind a dominant Ferrari 1-2.
The Finn was delayed for most of the race by Michael Schumacher as team
leader Eddie Irvine roared to victory.

'It's not motor racing is it?' said Dennis. 'It may be in
the rules but I don't think we would ever do it regardless of what was at
stake.'

The Ferrari's were subsequently disqualified for running illegal bodywork, but Dennis had already been poised to protest the team over their tyres, which he claimed had been allowed to wear down too much and become virtual slicks.

Asked just after the race if he would made protest over the tyres Dennis
said 'We are thinking about it.'

Hakkinen had spent most of his race trapped behind Schumacher. The Finn had waved wildly from the cockpit as lap after lap ticked past and
he could not find a way into second place to try and chase Irvine who was
leading.

'I was really pissed off,' said Hakkinen. 'It was horrible sitting there behind Schumacher.

'He was
easing off the accelerator out of the fast corners and costing me time but
there was nothing I can do.

'I'm not happy about it but it is within the rules.'
