Dennis Not Ruling Out Ferrari
McLaren chief Ron Dennis says it is too early to rule World Champions Ferrari out from the battle for this year's titles
Dennis, however, believes the Italian squad may have to resign to just fight for the constructors' title after their disastrous start to the season.
"I'm sure they're very focused on fulfilling their own objectives and to be Championship contenders, but there's going to be one point in which they may just be contenders for the Constructors' Championship," said Dennis.
"But you can never count anybody out, because teams like Ferrari, Renault and Williams can turn things around very quickly. If you have the ability to improve your car quickly that's what you have to do; what you can't do is to underestimate the competition.
"Ferrari may find something in their car, Bridgestone may come up with a better tyre, so anything can happen."
Ferrari are currently in fifth place in the constructors' standings, having scored just 18 points to Renault's 58 after the first five races of the season. World Champion Michael Schumacher is 34 points behind Championship leader Fernando Alonso.
Renault boss Flavio Briatore echoed Dennis' thoughts, saying Ferrari and Schumacher have what it takes to fight back.
"These things happen, especially when you are under pressure," said Briatore of Ferrari's performance in the Spanish Grand Prix. "But I'm sad for them, because having Ferrari fighting at the front is always good for Formula One.
"But I'm convinced Michael will win a race some time soon, because he and the team have all it takes to turn this situation around."
