Dennis Confident of a Win

McLaren boss Ron Dennis is extremely confident about pole sitter Kimi Raikkonen's chances of victory in this afternoon's Spanish Grand Prix, despite a hard challenge from Williams' Mark Webber in final qualifying

Raikkonen was able to just pip Webber by two-tenths of a second to grab the top spot, but Dennis believes that the Williams' pace has been flattered by a low-fuel strategy - and that the real threat is from third fastest Fernando Alonso.

"I am particularly pleased," said Dennis about Raikkonen's performance. "I think Webber is a little light and the real gap is four tenths of a second, so we are in good shape for the race.

"We knew we lost half a second in the first corner yesterday so we knew we had the speed, so it was down to Kimi to put the lap in."

Raikkonen himself, who lost time in first qualifying with a mistake at the second corner, said: "I am happy now. After qualifying yesterday I wasn't so happy because of my mistake, but we should be pretty okay now.

"We just need to have a good start and after that things should be sorted. We have a good race car and I am pretty hopeful that we will have a good race."

McLaren will of course face an anxious afternoon following Raikkonen's retirement from the San Marino Grand Prix when he seemed set for victory.

Dennis is hopeful that there will be no repeat, however. "That was our first failure of the season, so hopefully Imola was an isolated incident."
