Davidson to drive extra BAR in 2004

Anthony Davidson is the first man confirmed to take part as a third driver in Friday's free F1 practice sessions next year, according to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT Magazine.

The highly-rated youngster will drive alongside Jenson Button and Takuma Sato on the first day of action on each weekend next season.

"This is a dream come true," said Davidson. "It is what we planned would happen and, although some people said it was stupid staying at BAR as second test driver, we knew there was a chance for something like this.

"It is priceless to be able to learn all the tracks that are on the calendar and to be in the limelight for two hours on the Friday of grands prix."

The plans are for the bottom six teams to run third drivers during Friday's sessions next year - with the only limitation being that they have competed in less than six grands prix in the previous two seasons.
