Davidson: My toughest ever weekend

Anthony Davidson has admitted it has been hard to stay focussed on racing this weekend as his troubled Super Aguri team fight for their future

Super Aguri only got the green light to compete in the Spanish Grand Prix on Friday morning, when Honda agreed to bankroll their weekend.

And amid the uncertainty over their future, as discussions with potential investors continue, Davidson has not shied away from revealing how tough things have been for him.

"On Friday it was really hard to find motivation," said Davidson. "To get out there and just do a professional job was tough. I think I can safely say that this has been the hardest weekend of my life, in racing. Absolutely.

"You wonder whether this will be the last one. It would be quite fitting if this would be the last place that I ever turned a wheel in a Formula One car, because I have turned so many laps around here. It does get to you, and when the future is uncertain, like in any job, in anything in life, it gets to you eventually."

Although lack of development and testing has left Super Aguri pegged to the back of the grid, Davidson said it was 'amazing' that he was able to get within one tenth of Adrian Sutil's Force India car in qualifying.

"Qualifying was really good. To get that lap out of the car, and to get so close to Sutil was amazing, really. It's amazing. You guys only really know half the story with this car - it has been chopped about, it has got holes in it where there shouldn't be for cooling ... you name it, it's been done to the car. It's really a tough challenge to drive."

And he slammed other drivers who have been critical of the Super Aguri drivers for not being cooperative when being lapped in the races.

"I know that there are some drivers out there who complain about Super Aguris holding them up out there under blue flags, but you can hardly see what is going on because the car is shaking around so much, and you're fully focussed on just keeping the damn thing on the track.

"The last thing you can do is be bothered with people who are about to lap you. They can all shut right up in my mind, because I'd love to swap cars with them.

"And also - I'm trying not to get aggressive about this - can you imagine if there were some drivers who were paying to be here, driving these cars? Then you would see some chaos. So I think me and Taku are doing a damn good job, thank you very much."
