Davidson: Liuzzi crash a racing incident
Anthony Davidson believes his first corner clash with Vitantonio Liuzzi in the French Grand Prix was nothing more than a racing incident
Davidson slid into the back of Liuzzi at the first corner, and as Liuzzi looped around to correct his subsequent slide, he sideswiped the Super Aguri car and took them both out of the race.
Speaking about the incident: "The track was very slippery and as we all headed into Turn One the train of cars in front of me braked very hard and early.
"(Alex) Wurz went around the inside of Liuzzi, which made him brake heavily and that caused a bit of a chain reaction. I locked up both fronts and made contact with Liuzzi. He spun round and I went around the outside of him.
"I think then someone else hit him and he came back into me and spun me round. I made it back around to the pits, but the car was too damaged to continue. It is a shame, but I put it down to a racing incident."
Davidson's teammate Takuma Sato did not have much better luck. A poor start and a problem at his first pitstop meant he finished a lowly 16th.
"I had a problem with my car which meant that I could not get a proper race start from the grid," said the Japanese driver. "The first stint was okay, but we lost a lot of time during my first pitstop with another fuel rig problem.
"In the end I just fought to finish my race, but we weren't quick enough. This was a tough race for us. Hopefully things take a positive turn next week, but we need to be pushing for better performance now."
