Davidson Fastest as Mugello Test Ends

Briton Anthony Davidson finished at the top of the times on the final day of this week's testing at the Mugello circuit in Italy.

Briton Anthony Davidson finished at the top of the times on the final day of this week's testing at the Mugello circuit in Italy.

BAR's test driver Davidson took over from Japanese Takuma Sato at the wheel of the first of the Honda-powered 006 cars in action at Mugello today. Briton Jenson Button was also testing for BAR in today's session, which was hit by rain in the morning.

Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello was second quickest with the F2004, the Brazilian working on tyre testing ahead of the next Grand Prix in Spain.

The Toyota team completed their programme for the week, with Olivier Panis and Ricardo Zonta in action at the Italian circuit. Both drivers worked with the TF104 car, with the Frenchman outpacing the Brazilian test driver by over seven tenths of a second.

"This was a good test, even though we had reduced running time because of the rain on the last day," said Panis. "On Thursday I put in a lot of work to adjust the car for me, as well as working on braking and going over kerbs.

"By the afternoon the track had changed a lot, but we found a good set-up and the car was feeling better. We also had a successful test of tyre compounds for the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona on May 9. Although I had to stop for a precautionary engine change in the afternoon, Ricardo covered the rest of the work we had planned."
