Davidson downplays new car delay

Anthony Davidson is confident that delays with Super Aguri's new car will not put his team at a disadvantage in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix

The new SA07 will only be unveiled on the Wednesday before Melbourne, and Super Aguri are the only outfit that will not have run their new machine prior to the start of the campaign.

Davidson, however, is far from worried about the situation - and claims the most important thing is that the team managed to get fully to grips with Bridgestone's 2007 rubber through their winter testing programme.

"It shouldn't really make too much difference at all," said Davidson about not having driven the new car prior to Melbourne. "I am not so bothered about it at all.

"A Formula One car is a Formula One car at the end of the day, and the main thing that has been the hardest part for us has been learning the new tyres. That above all has been the biggest thing.

"Most drivers have been overdriving when they get in the car, and I was guilty of that too in Barcelona, when I was slipping around all over the place. You have just had to bring down the expectations of the grip levels, so that has been the hardest part.

"In that respect the hardest part is done, and it is going to be the same as my teammate. If we turn up in a wheelbarrow then we will both be in a wheelbarrow, and at the end of the day I have got to beat him! Whether that is in a milk float or an F1 car. That is my job. My personal task."

Davidson was speaking at the launch of the new PlayStation 3 game 'Formula One Championship Edition' in London, and claimed that one of the most exciting things about finally becoming a full-time F1 driver did not relate to being on the track - but in being featured in future PlayStation F1 games.

"This year I am going to achieve my lifetime ambition," he said. "I am going to be in a computer game!"

Speaking about his target for the year ahead, Davidson said that he hoped Super Aguri could challenge for points - although admitted it would not be an easy task.

"Realistically we know that we won't have the fastest car out there," he said. "But it should be a bit of improvement over last year's car, and we should have a stronger package than with what they ended last season.

"We finished 10th place in the last race, having gone from strength to strength over the season, so we are building on that.

"We will be in a position where we might be able to score a point or two over the season, which will be fantastic for everyone there. Until we get those points we have just got to work harder to make the car go quicker."
