Coulthard Unfazed by Renault Challenge

McLaren driver David Coulthard has admitted he is not worried about the challenge from the Renault team despite having to fight against their drivers during much of Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.

McLaren driver David Coulthard has admitted he is not worried about the challenge from the Renault team despite having to fight against their drivers during much of Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.

Coulthard was forced to battle with the Renault of Jenson Button for much of the gruelling race at Interlagos before finishing third behind the all-conquering Schumacher brothers. The Scot failed to finish the first two races and Button, who finished fourth for the second successive race, now leads the British drivers in the Championship.

But Coulthard is more concerned over his lack of competition with the leading teams rather than looking over his shoulder at the advancing Renault of Button, who is eager to become the top Briton on the grid.

"Both the Renaults were holding us up and I am not too worried because we have yet to see a consistent performance from them," Coulthard said. "If we hadn't lost time (behind them) then certainly we would have been a bit further down the road, but I think it was a massive gap to Michael and Ralf so I don't think we're quite there yet.

"We have got a bit of work to do. Our race pace is relatively closer than our qualifying pace, but that's the classic situation when your car or your whole package isn't quite as strong."
