Coulthard: 'I could be unbeatable'

The Scot was bubbling with confidence heading into the Belgian Grand Prix, which he won last year after coming out on top after winning a straight head-to-head fight with team mate Mika Hakkinen.

"If you look at the races this year when I have got it all together, then I have been unbeatable," said Coulthard as he reflected on his impressive victory in France.

"If I can produce those sort of performances in the next few races, then Mika and Michael should not pose a threat to me," he added. "But it's not going to be easy - I have got to be on the top of my game and hope they are not. If I can finish the next five races in the points, then I am going to be in with a shout of the championship - and that's my aim.

"I need results, but that is no different to any other race this season. This is an important race, but the situation is going to chop and change between us for the remaining races."

Coulthard remains upbeat even though he has slipped to third in the championship after finishing third in Budapest.

"I am not happy to be third in the championship but I'm not pissed off, I'm just not happy. That's the way the season has played out. I have had some good races and had some bad races and look forward to five strong ones to round the season off with."

After his victory in Hungary, Hakkinen now leads the table with 64 points, Schumacher has 62, Coulthard 58 and Rubens Barrichello 49.

"We could go into the final race with just two of us in with a chance of the championship or with all four of us," said Coulthard. "At the beginning of the season everyone was saying that Michael would be champion, but that's all changed now.

"It will change in the next few races because it is so highly competitive and there is little to choose between us. I just want to make sure I am in there fighting with them."
