Coulthard Flies, Button Tests 005 - Morning Session

McLaren's David Coulthard continued to set a blistering pace in the morning session of the third day of testing at the Barcelona circuit, where the Scot got close to breaking the track record for the second consecutive day.

McLaren's David Coulthard continued to set a blistering pace in the morning session of the third day of testing at the Barcelona circuit, where the Scot got close to breaking the track record for the second consecutive day.

Coulthard set a best lap of 1:15.278, only 12 thousandths of a second slower than the quickest time set on Tuesday at the wheel of the MP4-17 car. Test driver Alexander Wurz completed a dominant morning for the Woking-based outfit, finishing second ahead of Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya, who was two seconds off Coulthard's pace.

Briton Jenson Button took to the wheel of the BAR 005, which made its track debut today after it was unveiled yesterday in Barcelona. Button completed only 12 laps with the Honda-powered machine, but set a promising eighth quickest time as he acclimatised to the car.

Finn Kimi Raikkonen with the McLaren, Australian Mark Webber with the Jaguar, and Fernando Alonso with the Renault joined the Barcelona test today, with the Spaniard finishing at the bottom of the times after completing only eight laps with the French car.

Testing continues in the afternoon.
