Button Urges BAR to Improve Starts

Jenson Button on Sunday called for his BAR-Honda team to improve their poor performance at Grand Prix starts in time for him to claim his maiden Formula One victory in the final two races of the season.

Jenson Button on Sunday called for his BAR-Honda team to improve their poor performance at Grand Prix starts in time for him to claim his maiden Formula One victory in the final two races of the season.

Button, who is set to leave the team at the end of the year, knows he has a great opportunity to claim his first ever Grand Prix win in the Japanese or Brazilian Grands Prix after finishing second to Rubens Barrichello in Shanghai.

But the Williams-BMW-bound Briton said his current team's failure to solve their startline problems could cost him the chance of securing the success he has been dreaming of achieving.

"The starts have been a bit of a problem lately for us and to lose two places off the start, almost three places, was disastrous for us really," said Button, who fought back up the order with a two-stop strategy.

"The starts are something we need to work on but if we have that we will be a lot closer to challenging for our first win. Hopefully we can sort that problem out by Japan and we will be rocketing off the line and be up with these guys."

Button has now finished in the top three nine times in the 16 races so far this season but he insisted that he is not becoming tired of failing to reach the elusive top step of the podium.

"I have had four second places this season and it's always nice getting on the podium," said Button. "I wouldn't say I am getting fed up finishing second or third but we are not quite there yet. I think the Ferrari does have the legs on us but it has been a good year all round for us and it is still going to be very tough against Ferrari and also McLaren.

"Trying to close the gap today was very difficult because suddenly Rubens would put in some very quick laps but it was a good race for us and I was very happy to get second."
