Button not afraid of Alonso

Jenson Button has ruled out feeling under more pressure at Renault, now that the team has signed rising star Fernando Alonso as its test driver for next year

The Spaniard has been tipped to step up to the French manufacturer's race team for 2003 and is now in a position to replace Button at any time.

But in this week's AUTOSPORT magazine, the Briton says that he will approach his third season in F1 just as he did for his previous two.

"There is no more pressure on me with Alonso testing for us - just the same focus and determination from me to get the job done," said Button. "In fact, I'm looking forward to the year ahead.

"F1 has always been a pressure cooker and it is no different now to how it was last year," he added.

Williams still holds an option to take Button back on for 2003, although with Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya already well established at the team, it appears unlikely to happen.

For a full analysis of Alonso's move to Renault's test team, see this week's AUTOSPORT magazine, on sale tomorrow (Thursday).
