Button: maiden win has helped me cope

Twelve months on from his first F1 victory at the Hungaroring, Jenson Button has said that the true value of the win is only being felt now

Button took a dramatic win from a bizarre race that featured a scrambled grid and wildy varying weather conditions.

But while he savoured the moment at the time, he says that it means even more now as the Honda team strive to improve the troublesome RA107.

"I think the win really helps us now more than ever, because when things are tough, you've got something to fall back on," Button, who has scored just one point this season, said after practice on Friday.

"If I still hadn't won a race, it would be very, very difficult, being in this position.

"But winning a race isn't everything of course, we all want to win the championship. It's a great feeling when you do win, and it's nice that I have won that race now, and it's a bit easier when things are difficult."

Despite the events of last year's Hungarian race though, the Briton is adamant that it hasn't made him any better prepared this time around.

"[It does] absolutely nothing," he said. "It's a different season, a different car, it might as well be a different circuit to me at the moment - unless it rains."
