Button: Ferrari to 'Destroy the Field'

BAR-Honda driver Jenson Button said on Saturday that Ferrari are ready to blow away their rivals in Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix and complete their race towards their sixth consecutive constructors' title.

Ferrari currently hold a 99-point lead over second-placed Renault and the Anglo-French team must outscore the Italian giants by more than nine points in Sunday's race to take the fight to another round.

Michael Schumacher put his Ferrari on pole position in Saturday's qualifying session and his teammate Rubens Barrichello will line up alongside him on an all-scarlet front row of the grid Sunday.

Button and his BAR-Honda teammate Takuma Sato will start right behind the Ferrari pair on the second row but the British driver believes no team has a hope of stopping the Italian giants.

"Ferrari look too strong to do anything about," said Button. "I think the Ferraris are going to pull away at the start and destroy the whole field. I didn't expect them to be as quick as they are here. I think during the race they are going to be as quick as they always are. If you look at their consistency they are half a second, minimum, quicker than us, maybe even a second.

"Wherever they go they are the quickest, easily. There's no chance really. We've worked very well and we've worked like every other race this year. It's disappointing we weren't able to be closer to them here."

Top Renault driver Fernando Alonso, who won in Hungary last year, is lurking in fifth on the grid while his Italian teammate Jarno Trulli could manage only ninth after being hit by a brief rain shower during his lap.

Button believes that if Ferrari race into the distance he and Sato will be fighting hard with their Renault rivals for the remaining top places as they continue their battle for second place in the Constructors' Championship.

"We have to hope both of our cars score good points because in the championship we are challenging Renault," said Button, whose BAR team are nine points behind their rivals. "I think it's going to be a pretty good battle.

"I've got Fernando starting right behind me so I'm sure he's going to be a threat in turn one. I think we need to get a good race here and try to stay with Renault, try and close that gap."
