Burti Renews Contract with Ferrari

Brazilian Luciano Burti has renewed his contract to test drive for the Ferrari team, the World Champions confirmed today.

Brazilian Luciano Burti has renewed his contract to test drive for the Ferrari team, the World Champions confirmed today.

Burti joined Ferrari in 2002 after a difficult first season in Formula One which saw him race for both Jaguar and Prost before he suffered severe concussion in the big accident in Belgium.

The 26-year old admitted he is happy at the Italian squad, but claims he would like to return to racing.

"It's no secret that every driver wants to take part in the Grands Prix," said Burti. "In 2001, I drove for mid-grid teams and I have to say I really enjoyed myself. One always has to consider all the options, but honestly, I prefer to be a test driver for a top team where I can learn a lot.

"My first year with Ferrari was extremely demanding. The team is very professional and the car is fantastic. This helped me to become a quicker driver who knows how to move a car's development forward. I don't know if I would have made such a step forward with a smaller team."

Burti will continue to work alongside Italian teammate Luca Badoer.
