Bridgestone supports ban on tyre warmers
Bridgestone will happily accept a ban on tyre warmers as a means of reducing speeds in Formula One next year, the Japanese manufacturer said
The Technical Working Group has met at Hockenheim this weekend to discuss regulation changes for next year.
And, with Bridgestone being the sole supplier to F1 in 2007, it has been decided that tyres should be the focus of cutting speeds, which have continued to rise this year despite the change of engine regulations.
A ban on the use of tyre warmers will be put forward, while it is also thought tyre testing could be outlawed.
Bridgestone released a statement to autosport.com this morning regarding the TWG's discussions, saying: "Bridgestone is happy to accept the FIA's decision to reduce speeds in F1 for safety reasons.
"We have a good deal of experience producing tyres that do not use tyre warmers - for GP2, Champ Car, the IRL, Formula Nippon and Super GTs - but we would have to take this into consideration in the design of next year's tyres.
"If tyre warmers are used, we have to consider tyre warm-up and particularly pressure drops in a safety car period."
Bridgestone will only supply two specifications of tyres at each race next year. But the statement added: "The specification of next year's tyres has not been decided.
"Bridgestone is concentrating on development of this year's competitive campaign."
