Bridgestone aims to avenge Montreal defeat
After suffering a loss at the hands of Ralf Schumacher's Michelin-shod Williams-BMW in last year's Canadian Grand Prix, Bridgestone is hopeful that it will be in better shape in Montreal this time
The tyre company's technical manager, Hisao Suganuma said: "Rather like Malaysia this year, we concluded that our compound for last year's Canadian race was too soft. We have given careful consideration to which compounds should be right for Montreal this year, including close analysis of the track characteristics based on data such as the car's speed and the load on the tyres.
"Then, we selected appropriate circuits where there is similar input on the tyres for our testing of the specifications for Canada. I am confident about the way we have approached the race this year and therefore the tyres should be more competitive."
Despite Michelin's tyres providing the platform for David Coulthard's Monaco success through their qualifying performance, Suganuma claims that the Japanese company had the better race tyre and that only the tight confines of Monte Carlo prevented Michael Schumacher from proving it.
"Improving our tyres for Monaco qualifying is something we will work on for next year," he said.
Suganuma declared himself unsatisfied with Bridgestone's five wins from the seven races thus far this season.
"Our aim was to win them all," he stated. "Five out of seven is actually rather disappointing for us because we have worked hard to improve further last year's tyre performance and naturally we were hoping for a 100 percent record."
