Briatore: success down to racing focus
Renault boss Flavio Briatore believes the key to his team's continued success this year is that they have kept their focus on racing and not got distracted by the sport's politics
On a weekend when frantic talks continued to try and find agreement on future engine rules, Briatore has told autosport.com that the latest success for his team is simply the result of everyone staying focused on the job in hand.
He thinks his rivals are wasting too much effort worrying about the value of the sport to their companies.
"We have a good team," he said. "We are a very, very solid team and everyone is working in the same direction. We know what is Formula One - we race. It is quite simple this job. We manage it and we try to race. This is what is more important.
"In this day everyone is talking all the time and I think what they need to be doing is concentrating on the racing and not believe that this sport is a brand for the development of a car group. This is the mistake."
Briatore also thinks that the teams arguing about engine proposals are also focused on completely the wrong thing - because there should be more effort put towards making the racing more exciting.
"Everybody talking about this (engine situation) makes no sense," he said. "We should be talking about what we should be doing for a better race. What can we do to help overtaking?
"Not all this time, arguing about the Maranello (engine) proposal, not the Maranello proposal. When I proposed Maranello, everyone was against me and now it looks very good. I don't know what has happened over the last four months."
Engine manufacturers are hoping to meet the FIA before this weekend's United States Grand Prix to vote on 2008 engine rules.
