Bookies tip Sebastian Vettel for Silverstone success

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel is the bookmakers' choice for victory in this weekend's British Grand Prix

The Red Bull driver's stunning pace in the European GP at Valencia last time out means that Paddy Power are offering odds of just 13/5 on the German claiming his second win of the year, and his second GP victory at Silverstone.

Look to the skies

The weather forecast for the weekend indicates that rain is certain to be a factor at some stage. As we saw in Malaysia earlier in the season, this can throw the race wide open. The two stars of that event - championship leader Fernando Alonso and Sauber's Sergio Perez - are both keenly priced. Last year's winner Alonso is tempting at 5/1, while at 50/1 Perez is an excellent each-way punt.

Home-town heroes?

Lewis Hamilton won the British Grand Prix back in 2008 and the McLaren star is second-favourite to prevail this weekend at 4/1. Team-mate Jenson Button has never even finished on the podium, but his amazing feel in changeable conditions could make him a very shrewd tip at 14s. Force India's Paul di Resta is unlikely to win, but the Scot qualified a brilliant sixth for last year's race and at 80/1 outright, there are good odds available for him bagging a top-six finish.

What of the number twos?

Mark Webber's famous remark following his 2010 success is worth remembering ahead of the weekend. If the updated RB8 is as fast as it looked in Valencia he must be a good bet at 12/1 - that's better than even money each-way for a top-three finish! And over in the red corner Felipe Massa is a whopping 50/1, which is amazing odds for someone driving the car that's leading the championship.

The others?

Williams's Bruno Senna was another star in Malaysia and at 225/1 is surely worthy of consideration for a podium. The Lotus boys are closely matched - Romain Grosjean 11/1, Kimi Raikkonen 12/1, which is surprisingly long given their recent podium performances. But what about this being the race where Caterham finally make the top-10 breakthrough? You can find odds of 20/1 for Heikki Kovalainen troubling the points on Sunday.
