BMW mechanic released from hospital

BMW Sauber's plans to conduct a first major test of their new KERS was abandoned after a mechanic suffered an electric shock when he touched the car fitted with the device in the pitlane.

Although he returned to work shortly after the accident, the unnamed mechanic was admitted to hospital in Jerez on Tuesday evening after complaining of dizzy spells.

Following overnight observation and further tests throughout Wednesday, he was eventually discharged and is now heading home.

A statement from BMW Sauber said: "The mechanic who was involved in the KERS incident yesterday underwent additional medical tests in the Jerez hospital last night and today.

"He was subsequently released by the doctors who were happy with the results of their tests. The mechanic is on his way back to Switzerland this evening."

The Jerez incident has increased questions over the safety of KERS, with Red Bull Racing having last week suffered a fire scare at their factory when a battery system they were testing malfunctioned.
