BMW calls for Williams improvements
BMW expects next year's Williams to be capable of winning on every kind of circuit, following a season when the combination became known as high-speed track specialists
BMW motorsport technical director Dr Mario Theissen hopes that Williams will prove just as competitive at circuits like Monaco and Hungary, as they were at Hockenheim and Monza this year. The German manufacturer's engine is said to be the most powerful in Formula 1 and was given a lot of the credit for the team's victories this year.
"We have shown this year that if everything goes right, the track suits the car, the weather is fine, the drivers are good, then we can win," Dr Theissen told Autosport.com. "But we have shown so far that we are not able to really exploit the potential of the whole package every day at every track. And this is what we have to learn. This is to a certain extent about the performance of the car in slower tracks."
Williams scored four victories in 2001, with Ralf Schumacher winning at Imola, Montreal and Hockenheim, while team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya scored his maiden Grand Prix victory at Monza. All are regarded as power circuits.
