Berger: 'Our aim remains the same'

Williams has not changed its target for the season, according to the motorsport boss of engine partner BMW

Gerhard Berger said that Ferrari's one-two victory over Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya at the San Marino Grand Prix is not necessarily a huge set-back, despite Williams-BMW losing its lead in the constructors' championship. Ferrari has 40 points, Williams has 37.

"It's clear that Ferrari has built very good cars and they make sure our work and our targets are not over," he said. "Nevertheless third and fourth positions are positive results. In the past four weeks, when we were leading the championship, we never forgot our outspoken target for this season, which is second place in the constrcutors' championship.

"With just three points back from Ferrari and a considerable gap to our pursuers, we are placed more than well."

Montoya admitted to being disappointed with fourth place after failing to trouble his team-mate or the Ferraris. "Today there was simply nothing more there," he said, "as I had to fight with an imbalance on the car. The car was very good in the warm-up, then we decided to go for some small changes that unfortunately didn't turn out as positive as we had wished."
