Barrichello Outpaces Massa at Jerez - Day One

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello outpaced Felipe Massa on the first day of testing at Jerez as both Ferrari and Sauber got back to work today.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello outpaced Felipe Massa on the first day of testing at Jerez as both Ferrari and Sauber got back to work today.

Italian Grand Prix winner Barrichello posted a fastest time of 1:17.412 to finish over 1.5 seconds ahead of his compatriot. Massa's programme was delayed by the strong winds in the morning, which hampered the Swiss squad's progress.

"Due to the delay in the morning we could only start our test around noon," said Sauber's race engineer Mike Krack. "This obviously threw us back, but we were able to compensate this loss of time a bit and I'm confident that we will complete our this week's programme.

"The afternoon we basically spent with Bridgestone tyre work for the remaining three races. We will verify the gathered data tomorrow. Because of the fairly strong wind we could not run our planned aerodynamic tests today and have decided to postpone them to tomorrow."

Both teams continue testing tomorrow.

Today's times:

Pos Driver Team-Engine Tyres Time Laps 1. Barrichello Ferrari (B) 1:17.412 74 2. Massa Sauber-Petronas (B) 1:19.012 72 All Timing Unofficial
