Barcelona, day 3: Pizzonia edges Wurz

Williams tester Antonio Pizzonia topped the final day of the Formula 1 test at the Circuit de Catalunya - but Alexander Wurz's lap record-breaking effort from Wednesday remained the best of the week in Barcelona

Pizzonia was the only driver to dip into the 1m16s today, with McLaren tester Wurz nearly two-tenths slower.

McLaren race driver David Coulthard was third and Pizzonia's team-mate Marc Gene was fourth.

The Michelin-shod teams were trying out tyres for next week's Japanese Grand Prix. McLaren continued to run its B-spec MP4-17s that it will use for the start of next season, while Gene continued development of the revised FW24 with its 2003 BMW engine and gearbox.

Gene suffered a couple of technical problems which forced him to stop out on the circuit, bringing out the red flags.

Toyota testers Ryan Briscoe and Stephane Sarrazin finished their programmes for the week. Briscoe was trying out a new front wing and a new undertray for Suzuka, while Sarrazin drove the B-spec TF102.

Sarrazin said: "I am extremely happy with what we have achieved today, especially after the few difficulties we had yesterday. The team did a great job throughout the session and we managed to go through the entire scheduled programme."

Anthony Davidson completed a trouble-free day's running for British American Racing. He was working on electronics and Honda engine developments.

While the other teams pack up and go home Williams will stay on in Barcelona for two days of private testing.
