Barcelona day 2: Toyota tops times!

I dNew Toyota driver Olivier Panis has gone fastest on the second day of the Formula 1 test at Barcelona, setting a best lap of 1m17.190s

The Frenchman beat out the McLaren pairing of Alex Wurz and David Coulthard, who were followed by Mark Webber in the 2002-specification Jaguar.

Webber's team-mate, Antonio Pizzonia, finally managed to put some serious mileage on Jaguar's R3B car, completing a 50 lap run in the machine. "We finished the programme finally," said the Brazilian. "We were running with the new engine, new suspension and new gearbox. I'm quite happy with the engine and very happy with the gearbox. At least I did some mileage, which is good. Also, I didn't turn the car over!"

The Williams team suffered two engine failures during the day, although both times it was a 2002 motor that failed. Although test-driver Marc Gene also suffered from a mechanical failure in his Williams, which was running the 2003 engine, the cars problems were not related to the engine.

Ralf Schumacher made his return to a Williams cockpit for the first time since the end of the season, but plans for him to conduct a series of long runs were frustrated by his car problems. When asked to describe his engine failure, the German said: "It was reasonably big."

Ferrari were in action at the Mugello circuit, with test driver Luciano Burti completing 62 laps of running, focussing on electronics work. His best lap was a 1m33.570s.
