Barcelona, day 1 am: Fog delays test
Foggy conditions caused the start of testing at Barcelona to be delayed today (Monday). The track was not opened until 10am Spanish time, but with the surface still damp it was a while before any serious action took place
It was left to Renault's Jarno Trulli to set the pace, the Italian covering 10 laps in the new car, recording a best time of 1m21.398s. This compares to a 1m17.8s set by Sauber's Nick Heidfeld when he topped the times at the last big test at the Circuit de Catalunya.
Takuma Sato was second quickest for Jordan, albeit half a second behind Trulli. However, he did manage to cover 24 laps in his quest to become more comfortable in the EJ12. Marcel Lasee drove the team's second car. The German, who is tipped to become Jordan's test driver, was almost a second and a half off Sato's pace.
Alex Yoong covered 14 laps in the new Minardi, while Enrique Bernoldi did just one installation lap in the Arrows A23.
Testing continues this afternoon.
