BAR targets Renault at Monza

With the constructors' title already in Ferrari's hands, the fight is on for second spot with BAR aiming to steal it from Renault in the remaining four races of the season. Driver Jenson Button believes the team can close the gap to its rivals even further at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix

BAR is currently eight points behind Renault having reined the Anglo-French team in over the course of the last four races. While both teams failed to score points at the last race in Belgium, BAR notched up more points than Renault in the three preceding races. Button certainly believes the team will fare well at Monza this weekend, a track that should suit the 006.

"I am looking forward to racing in Monza," Button said. "The atmosphere is always great over the race weekend. Monza is a low-downforce circuit and our car should work well on this track. Our main aim is to finish in front of the Renaults and collect as many points as possible to edge closer to second place in the constructors' championship."

Team-mate Takuma Sato said: "It was obviously frustrating that we could not finish the race last weekend in Spa and that is why we are very much looking forward to the Italian Grand Prix. Even though there are no fast challenging corners, it is always an exciting race in Monza so I am really looking forward to racing there next week."

Team boss David Richards hopes the team will return to its podium ways in Italy, the last podium was Button's second place at the German Grand Prix.

"Despite a disappointing result in our last race at Spa, I am looking forward to the four remaining Grands Prix of the season," he said. "I am confident we can maintain the momentum that we have worked so hard to establish and ensure a top three position in the championship. Personally I'm hopeful that the Italian Grand Prix, our last race in Europe, will mark a return to the podium for BAR before we head off for the fly-aways once again, this time to the Far East and Brazil."
