BAR Happy to Consolidate Third Place

BAR-Honda team principal David Richards was pleased after the Brackley-based squad consolidated their third place in the Constructors' Championship at the Spanish Grand Prix.

BAR-Honda team principal David Richards was pleased after the Brackley-based squad consolidated their third place in the Constructors' Championship at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Japanese driver Takuma Sato came home in fifth position, while British teammate Jenson Button, on the podium in the last three races, climbed back from 14th on the grid to take eighth place and stay third overall in the drivers' standings with 24 points.

The result, although not was BAR had hoped for, allowed the team to move into third place in the Championship, two points ahead of Williams.

"This result further strengthens our third place in the Championship, and although not perhaps what we had hoped for when we came here, I am very pleased to have both cars in the points and finishing reliably," said Richards.

"Taku drove well this afternoon and is now gaining some real momentum which I see growing race by race. Jenson's result was a strong testament to the excellent teamwork in the pits.

"Even though he was considerably faster than the cars in front it is extremely difficult to pass and so his pitstop strategy and execution proved critical. Another weekend of learning and building experience as a team, all of which will make us stronger."
