Badoer: Summer test ban hurt Ferrari
Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer has admitted that Formula 1's summer testing ban has come at a bad time for the Italian team, as it bids to hold off the resurgent Williams team in the battle for the world championship
The testing ban kicked off following the British Grand Prix, and prevents any team from testing until after the Hungarian Grand Prix next weekend, stopping Ferrari from doing on-track development work on its cars. The team was soundly beaten by Juan Pablo Montoya in the recent German Grand Prix, and needs as much development work as possible to close the performance deficit.
"The testing ban has come at the wrong time," admitted Badoer. "We would like to test and we have a lot of things to try, including evaluating tyres in order to move forward. However, the situation is the same for all the teams. After Hungary, we will test in Monza and at that time we will test all the developments lined up over the past months."
Badoer was in action at Ferrari's Fiorano test circuit today, shaking down the three cars Ferrari will use at next weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. The Italian completed a total of 35km, with no lap times being recorded.
