Badoer suffers second shunt
Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer has once again escaped injury during testing at Jerez today (Wednesday) after crashing the F2004 for the second successive day - but this time mechanical failure was not to blame
The Italian was lucky to walk away from a high-speed shunt yesterday at the Dry Sac corner at the end of the back straight. The damaged Ferrari was repaired overnight ready for Badoer today, but the Italian careered off at the first corner of the Spanish track about an hour after testing resumed. Although it was initially believed that another mechanical failure caused the crash, it was subsequently blamed on driver error.
Fortunately for Badoer the track leading into the first corner is at an uphill gradient which slowed Badoer's speed going into the bend. The damage to Badoer's Ferrari was very light and he was quickly able to return to the track for more testing.
Michael Schumacher is due to take over from Badoer on Thursday to test Bridgestone tyres for the Japanese Grand Prix on October 10.
